The gallery is very proud to announce a solo exhibition by Allison Schulnik at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art (CT) as part of the institution’s MATRIX series. Following her solo exhibition at ZieherSmith (NY) – -which will be on view January 9 – February 22, 2014 — MATRIX 168 will feature a selection of Schulnik’s paintings, but will primarily center on the premiere of “Eager” (2013), a new stop-motion, clay animated video by the artist that has been in the making for nearly a year.

Schulnik trained under legendary animator Jules Engel, contributor to Disney classics Fantasia (1940) and Bambi (1942), and founding director of the Experimental Animation Program at California Institute of the Arts (Cal Arts). Her videos directly relate to the subject matter, color palette, and techniques seen in her paintings and sculptures. With this in mind, her work will perfectly compliment the purpose of the MATRIX series, which calls into question preconceptions about art and increases understanding of its possibilities.

The Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, has announced the addition of works by Lester Monzon and Julie Oppermann to its permanent collection. We congratulate both artists on this impressive milestone, and thank the museum for its continuing support of the gallery program.

“I’m Ok” – a solo exhibition of new work by gallery artist duo, Clayton Brothers – will open at Antonio Colombo Arte Contemporanea in Milan on November 21, 2013.

Says the gallery, “‘I’m Ok’ includes about 30 new works of painting, drawing, and sculpture, specifically made for this show. All works focus on analysis of the relationship between the work and the observer, which is one of the central themes of their research, defined as a sort of ‘abstract narrative’ constructed by reworking characters, situations, and circumstances gleaned from everyday experiences.”

The exhibition will remain on view through February 1, 2014.

On Wednesday, November 13, from 6:30-8pm, gallery artist Julie Heffernan will speak at the National Academy Museum (NY) about her favorite paintings and the artists that made them. Alongside Carolee Schneeman, David Diao, and Alexi Worth, Heffernan will expound on both her craft and her influences. Tickets may be purchased through the museum.

The gallery is pleased to announce our inaugural participation in the second edition of Miami Project, a contemporary and modern art fair that will return to Miami’s Midtown Art District December 3-8th, 2013. Miami Project will showcase an eclectic array of 65 galleries from around the world in an exquisite setting.

Miami Project begins with a dedication to quality, both in content and production. The 2012 inaugural edition received high praise both for its well-designed 55,000 square foot structure and for its mix of new contemporary and emerging works with top quality 20th century offerings. Galleries are selected by a strict criteria including a rigorous, well reviewed exhibition history, involvement with top estates and museum shows, and past participation in major art fairs. The fair will also partner with the Museum of Contemporary Art North Miami. The mutual sponsorship will include fair promotion to members and tours for their top donors during the fair.

Co-curated by Mark Moore Gallery, “L.A./Tex” at Dallas’ Circuit 12 Contemporary opened last Friday to a positive audience. Featuring work by gallery program artists Tim Bavington, Dimitri Kozyrev, Julie Oppermann, and Feodor Voronov, “L.A./Tex” focuses on four abstract painters that grapple with duality. Says the gallery:

“While each painter exemplifies a kind of hybrid experience in his or her work, they differ vastly in their execution, aesthetic, and biography – creating an eclectic commentary about the nature of modern amalgamation.  As Tim Bavington fuses his love of guitar melodies with hard-edge abstraction, Feodor Voronov weds his bilingual abilities with an Ab-Ex tradition of mark making. Ali Smith escorts the viewer on a journey between the macro and micro in the same way Julie Oppermann manipulates the perception of the digital and analog, while Dimitri Kozyrev translates a lineage of Russian constructivism into globalized abstraction.”
