Amy Myers (b. 1965, Austin, TX) is a New York-based artist whose large-scale abstract drawings and paintings simultaneously reference particle physics, biology, philosophy, the human mind, and the mechanics of the universe.

Myers has received numerous grants and fellowships, including The Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant; Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts; Ellen S. Kaminsky Family Foundation Studio Residency and Award at MANA Contemporary; and The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation Studio Grant. Past residencies include Yaddo Artist Residency (Saratoga Springs, NY); Dora Maar House (Menerbes, France); and The American Academy in Rome.

Previous solo exhibitions include Mike Weiss Gallery (New York, NY); Mary Boone Gallery (New York, NY);  Suzanne Vielmetter Los Angeles Projects (Los Angeles, CA); Danese Gallery (New York, NY); Rhona Hoffman Gallery (Chicago, IL); and Dunn and Brown Contemporary (Dallas, TX).

Music is the genesis of Tim Bavington’s paintings. Through synthetic polymer paint, Bavington acts as a translator between the aural and the visual as he transforms guitar solos, melodies and bass lines into vertical bands of color. Tracks from bands such as The Darkness, Oasis and The Rolling Stones become vibrant bands of color, and bridge compositional concepts between seemingly unlike disciplines. Although Bavington has a method that designates sound to color and composition, the paintings are not literal translations; they remain open to intuition and decision-making, allowing for a distinct artistic presence.

This monumental work just completed on the San Francisco Bay Trail was two years in the making. The work is based on the song “Touch of Grey” which was a 1987 single by the Grateful Dead, and is from the album In the Dark. The song is known for its refrain “I will get by / I will survive”. It combines quasi-dystopian lyrics with a pop tempo. The music was composed by Jerry Garcia, and the lyrics were written by Robert Hunter. It was also released as a music video, the first one by the Grateful Dead.

Tim Bavington (b. 1966, England) received his BFA from the Art Center (CA) before making the permanent move to Las Vegas, where he completed his MFA at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (NV). His work is included in the public collections of Fredrick R. Weisman Collection (CA), Crocker Art Museum (CA), Honolulu Art Museum (HI), Albright-Knox Art Gallery (NY), Creative Artists Agency (CA), Joslyn Art Museum (NE), Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego (CA), Portland Art Museum (OR), United Talent Agency (CA), Vivendi Universal (CA), Palm Springs Art Museum (CA), Denver Art Museum (CO), The Museum of Modern Art (NY), Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, Utah State University (UT) and the McNay Art Museum (TX). He has exhibited at LeeAhn Gallery (Daegu), Jack Shainman Gallery (NY), Galerie Jean-Luc & Takako Richard (Paris), Space Gallery (London), Museum of Fine Arts (MA), Laguna Art Museum (CA), Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Buenos Aires, and the Texas Fine Arts Center (TX) among others.

The work will be landscaped and fully completed in December 2019 on The The San Francisco Bay Trail – a bicycle and pedestrian trail that when finished will allow continuous travel around the shoreline of San Francisco Bay. As of 2019, 356 miles (573 km) of the trail have been completed. When finished, the trail will be over 500 miles (800 km) of paved and gravel paths, bike lanes, and sidewalks, linking 47 cities across nine counties and crossing seven toll bridges. It is a project of the Association of Bay Area Governments (ABAG) and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), in collaboration with other agencies, private companies, non-profit organizations, and advocacy groups. The trail is intended to provide recreation for hikers and bicyclists, viewpoints for wildlife, space for environmental education, and corridors for bicycle transportation as well as access to historic, natural and cultural sites, including over 130 parks. Lisa Stefanelli is an artist living and working in New York City and Easton, Pennsylvania. She attended the Rhode Island School of Design and received her degree in 1989. She has been a practicing artist for the last three decades.

“The underlying pursuit of my studio practice is to examine the possibility of being simultaneously involved and uninvolved in the complexity of all of our relationships, both animate and inanimate. Elements of the environments we inhabit—signage, sound/music, advertising, and popular culture (basically the cultural clutter of our lives)—are primary in informing the paths and trajectories of the works’ visual language. The work is elaborate and complicated while concurrently yearning to avoid the entanglements it embodies. And yet there is a joy in the confusion we live in. My practice chases that joy.”

Kara Maria produces paintings and work on paper that reflect on political themes such as feminism, war, and the environment.  She borrows from the broad vocabulary of contemporary painting; blending geometric shapes, vivid hues, and abstract marks, with representational elements. Maria received her BA and MFA from the University of California, Berkeley. She has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States at venues including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University; the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, Texas; the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art; and the Katonah Museum of Art in New York; among others.

In 2016, Maria’s work was featured in a solo exhibition, Head Over Heels, at the University Art Gallery at California State University, Chico, which included an accompanying monograph.  Her work has garnered critical attention in the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and Art in America. Maria has completed residencies at the Montalvo Arts Center, Recology Artist in Residence Program, Djerassi Resident Artists Program, and at the de Young’s Artist Studio. She is recipient of multiple awards and honors, including a grant from Artadia and an Eisner Prize in Art from the University of California, Berkeley. Maria lives and works in San Francisco.

Zemer Peled’s labor-intensive process that bridges narrative and formalist elements. Peled utilizes a process of creation and destruction to make sculptures consisting of thousands of handcrafted porcelain shards resulting in works that can be read in relation to art historical tradition, outsider art, and natural phenomena.

The sculpture’s narrative impulses lean to encounters with the otherworldly—like complex topiaries marking a not-so-distant land–yet they remain distinctly tied to earth’s patterns. This conflation of the foreign and familiar creates a frenzied dislocation in the work. Inspired by migratory habits of birds, a sweep of feathers, and cycles of change, the works spiral outwardly in rhythmic patterns, interpreting not only the dynamism of nature, but also the startling strangeness of a life lived in transition.

Using white and colored porcelains, Peled transforms sharp slivers of porcelain into feathers, petals, leaves, and spines that describe objects of unknowable origins: seductive but untrustworthy. The forms are complexly ordered from the inside out, often bulging or spilling over with textures both delicate and severe. In some works, large scale-like ceramic pieces appear airy, delicate, and fluffy, as if one’s breath might break it. In others, Peled’s fragments are geometric barbs that mysteriously take on an alluring form – offering a sense of softness despite a sharp actuality. The forms are never static; the visual dance of sharp ceramic parts conveys a sense of constant movement. Like a murmuration of starlings, the sculptures appear to shift shapes as you move around them, an identity becoming and unbecoming in front of you.

The act of making for Peled is a feat of endurance, improvisation, and adaptation with the aim to embody a fleeting but fundamental feeling of mystery. The construction of her sculpture parallels negotiations any outsider makes in encountering a new world as they delicately construct a self that is both adaptable and resilient.

Peled’s work examines the beauty and brutality of the natural world. Her sculptural language is formed by her surrounding landscapes and nature, and engages with themes of memories, identity, and place. Her sculptures and installations consist of thousands of hand-crafted porcelain shards; a technique that yields a texture both delicate and severe. In some works, large scale-like ceramic pieces appear airy, delicate, and fluffy, as if one’s breath might break it. In others, Peled’s fragments are geometric barbs that mysteriously take on an alluring form – offering a sense of softness despite a sharp actuality. 

Zemer Peled (b. 1983) was born and raised in a Kibbutz in the northern part of Israel. After completing her BFA from the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design (Jerusalem), she earned her MA at the Royal College of Art (UK). In recent years, her work has been exhibited internationally, including such venues as Sotheby’s and Saatchi Gallery (London), Eretz Israel Museum (Tel Aviv), the Henry Moore Gallery at the Royal College of Art (London), and the Orangerie du Senate (Paris), among others. Mark Moore Fine Art and Houston Art Advisory is pleased to announce “Altered Aurus“, a solo show from California artist, Joshua Dildine, of works selected spanning over the last decade, connecting the origins of his relationship with abstract painting and photography.

While the aura of something describes the atmosphere or quality that surrounds it, “aurus” is a latin word describing something of or related to gold. A family photo that captures a memory can be like a treasure more valuable than gold if it holds meaning for a person. Dildine expertly alters imagery from his own family archive of photographs as a jumping off point for most of his paintings, making them both grounded and familiar, yet somehow other worldly through his painting style. They strike a balance between captured representation and dimensional abstraction, as an act of destruction and rebirth in one stroke, weaving the immediacy of the present with the nostalgia of the past. “Altered Aurus” brings together these works painted over large scale photographs with abstract paintings derived from photo + paint sketches and studies.

Dildine (b. 1984, CA), received his MFA from Claremont Graduate University (CA). He has been featured in group exhibitions in Oakland, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Murfreesboro, as well as the Frederick Weisman Museum of Fine Art (CA). His work is included in the public collection of the Sweeney Art Gallery, University of California Riverside (Riverside, CA), The Frederick Weisman Museum of Fine Art (CA), The Honolulu Art Museum, and The Museum of Art and History (Lancaster, CA). He was also the recipient of the 2010 Claremont Graduate University Award. The artist lives and works in Fresno, CA.

Mark Moore Fine Art presents a new body of work by Jason Salavon titled, “Narrative Frame (Illuminated Manuscripts)”. Works from this series are on concurrently on view as part of the show “Direct Message: Art, Language, and Power” at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.

In his work from “Little Infinities” Series – of which this series is a part – Jason Salavon’s continues pioneering a multi-decade use of data and algorithms in the creation of visual art. Throughout this time, his work has unearthed unseen pattern, habit, and structure within our culture and daily life. The works in this exhibition broaden this exploration, critically probing the proliferation of image data, the historical structures of narrative, and the creative potential of the current Artificial Intelligence revival.

In this series of suites of prints, real-time videos, and wallpapers, collectively titled “Narrative Frame”, Salavon addresses three primary historical structures used for the propagation of narrative: illuminated manuscripts, newspapers, and websites. Produced using self-authored neural network software, the works provide insight into the literal shapes and structure we’ve used to tell one another stories through time. In this particular piece from this body of work, we are focused on Salavon’s Illuminated Manuscript works.

Jason Salavon (born 1970, Indianapolis, IN) received a BA in Art and Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin (1993) and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1997). Salavon has exhibited his work extensively for the last twenty years, including recent solo exhibitions at Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, OH (2017), Mark Moore Gallery, Los Angeles, CA (2016); the Haggerty Museum of Art, Milwaukee, WI (2016); TAI Modern, Santa Fe, NM (2016); and the Public Trust, Dallas, TX (2016). In collaboration with Microsoft Research, where he was a Visiting Artist in 2014, he exhibited at the Seattle Art Museum, Seattle, WA (2015). He has completed numerous large-scale commissions including for the Merchandise Mart, Chicago, IL (2018) and the United States Census Bureau, Washington, D.C. (2013).

His work is included in many public collections including The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York NY; the National Portrait Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.; the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, IL; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, IL; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles, CA; and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
