ON VIEW: An Exclusive ARTSY Online Exhibition by artist collective OKAY MOUNTAIN titled “Prototypes”

Mark Moore Fine Art is very pleased to present an Exclusive ARTSY Online Exhibition by artist collective OKAY MOUNTAIN titled “Prototypes”

Modeled after the style of invention marketed on late-night television, “Prototypes” is part documentation for sculptures that no longer exist, part performative staging for the camera, and part commentary on advertisement photography’s often ignored aesthetic history. Prototypes is not strictly about the objects themselves, but how it is we encounter objects through pictures, how meaning is reliant on the style in which depiction is carried out. Each sculpture is a character in its own consumerist drama, complete with moody lighting, expressionistic gestures, and an elaborate set. All of these aspects work together through a sense of humor to question the interlocking relationships between photography, sculpture, commodification and desire.

Okay Mountain is a nine member artist collective based in Austin, Texas. The group initially came together to run the alternative gallery space Okay Mountain (2006-2012), and began making work together in their spare time. As an artist-run gallery the collective organized group and solo exhibitions featuring nationally and internationally recognized artists, hosted musical performances, readings, and other art-related events. As a creative collective, the group has exhibited their drawing, video, sound, and sculpture projects throughout the United States and in Mexico City. Okay Mountain’s immersive installations and multi-media assemblages have been widely recognized for their interest in humor, vernacular culture, and consumerist fantasy, as well as their sardonic critique of the insecurities and superficial convictions that surround such interests.

LOOK TO THE SKIES: An Exclusive ARTSY Exhibition

Mark Moore Fine Art is very pleased to present an Exclusive ARTSY Online Group Exhibition titled LOOK TO THE SKIES featuring artists Lita Albuquerque; Josh Azzarella; Mark Bennett; Dennis Ekstedt; Penelope Umbrico; Cassandra C. Jones; and Lisa Stefanelli.

VIEW NOW AT: bit.ly/3QJ2yl0

Painting the sky, the stars, and the planets is a skill as old as time itself. Long before we as a species knew anything about the universe and our place within it, artists were looking upwards to the skies for inspiration. Artists like Van Gogh, Durer, Trouvelot, and Rudaux, all created art inspired by outer space over the centuries.

Our collective fascination with the skies have inspired artists, astronomers, and visionaries dating as far back as 16,500 B.C., when the earliest representations of constellations appeared in cave paintings in Lascaux, France and Cueva del Castillo, Spain. The book is notable for its use of juxtaposition; rather than being organized chronologically or thematically, LOOK TO THE SKIES presents disparate works side-by-side, highlighting fluctuations in humanity’s understanding of space across vast lengths of time.

Throughout history, artists have contemplated and reflected on the human condition. And what greater human condition is there than our position on this singular planet amidst an ever-expanding celestial unknown? We’ve highlighted seven contemporary artists featured in LOOK TO THE SKIES who’ve grappled with the subject; evaluating humanity’s intimate relationship with the cosmos in thought-provoking visual and sculptural renderings.

LOOK TO THE SKIES features the work of Lita Albuquerque; Josh Azzarella; Mark Bennett; Dennis Ekstedt; Penelope Umbrico; Cassandra C. Jones; and Lisa Stefanelli who each, in their own way, explore their own obsession and attraction to the magic of the last frontier.

Featured Show Of The Week: ROBERT STANDISH “Transcendental Tourist” – An Exclusive ARTSY Online Exhibition

Mark Moore Fine Art is proud to present an exclusive ARTSY online exhibition of five new works from The Rhythmic Series works by Los Angeles painter ROBERT STANDISH titled “Transcendental Tourist“.

VIEW NOW AT: bit.ly/3XCzWMp

For twenty years, Los Angeles painter Robert Standish had been abstracting reality by altering his own powerful and moving photorealistic paintings of daily life. Seven years ago, Standish shifted away from constructing lifelike replicas of the world, and into an investigation of the unconscious unknown through abstraction. His move into an Abstract Expressionist “wet-on-wet” technique developed in tandem with his interests in cosmology and topography, in addition to psychological theory – namely, Dr. Carl Jung’s notion and analysis of the human psyche.

In his newest work, Standish revisits the essential element of his early style of photorealistic painting, namely, a photo reference, but through his more recent lens of abstraction. Fed up with biased news reporting, Standish sources his imagery from top U.S. and world news stories; often selecting photos from the Internet and various social media platforms associated with polarizing content. By unifying his disparate techniques, he gradually manipulates the palette and texture of the original image to change the representation of its featured subject – and subsequently, the viewer’s interpretation of it. Transcendence being a consistent theme of his practice, Standish’s newest work is true to his rejection of the finite, and his proclivity for the universal.

Robert Standish is an American painter living and working in Los Angeles whose organic process reveals the emotive effects of color, shape, and texture. Inspired by the color-field painters and Abstract Expressionism, Standish’s free-flowing use of paint is his way of exploring abstraction and transcendence. Standish’s works can be found in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, JP MORGAN CHASE, The Weisman Foundation, the Lancaster Museum of Art and History, Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, Crocker Art Museum,  Louis K. Meisel, Larry and Marilyn Fields, Patricia Arquette, Norwest Venture Partners, and BRYANT/ STIBEL, along with numerous other acclaimed collections. Standish’s paintings have been exhibited internationally in galleries and museums, including group shows at the Carnegie Art Museum, Frederick R Weisman Museum of Art, a duo show with Sam Francis at Martin Lawrence Gallery, and a solo show at the Museum of Art and History, Lancaster.

ENDS SUNDAY: Joseph Rossano “Her One Voice” – An Exclusive ARTSY Online Exhibition Opening 12/1/22

Mark Moore Fine Art is proud to present an Exclusive ARTSY Online Exhibition by artist JOSEPH ROSSANO.Her One Voice” is an installation of recent work configured especially for Mark Moore Fine Art. Everything in the exhibit is made from repurposed or gifted materials.

VIEW NOW AT: bit.ly/3AAk5oM

The HER ONE VOICE installation comprises elements from two series, “Divine Forms” and “At the Top of Her Lungs”. Below are excerpts from each series description:

At the Top of Her Lungs

At this penning, on September 11th, 2020, the West is ablaze. A mere 40 miles away, a temperate rainforest, home to life aged greater than 2,000 years, struggles for its last breath. Forests as filtration systems for life are essential to all beings on this planet. By recasting our failings to project beauty, viewers are placed in direct contact with the history of their kind and in a way that engages their own activism. By activating a community to save animals, perhaps, we can save each other.  At the Top of Her Lungs is an ongoing series of portraits. The creatures depicted in these works, present, and past, beseech us to heed mother nature’s plea —  wake.

Divine Forms

In this new exhibition, Divine Forms, mirrored vessels – the forms of which reference early Christian iconography – are placed centrally in the gallery, reflecting and engaging the paintings that encircle them. Each artwork invites exploration of the natural world. At the same time, the installation turns the mirror on us, the viewer, causing us to reflect upon the power we have on the planet and the role we play in the preservation – or destruction – of the natural world. She asks us: how will we wield our collective power?

In the many animal portraits, and also reflections seen of oneself in-gallery, are the faces of mother nature. “Her One Voice” asks us to see ourselves as the solution and to take action in the best interest of all species.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Rossano’s work uses the spectacle of art to disarm an audience, opening that audience to truths about man and nature. On the surface, it appears as though he is manufacturing representational art; the hidden reality is quite different. Rossano has made butterflies from fighter aircrafts; used whitewash and tar to tell a story of human behavior refusing to disappear; and employed 800-year-old trees as a historic reference to modern humanity.

Through the use of contextually significant materials, the artist’s work relates an environmental truth hidden in plain sight. Engaging in intensively researched life science theory, Rossano curates a narrative of his own manufacture, which exposes the viewer to that hidden truth and the theory it supports. Through a mutual desire to protect the natural world, he enlists prominent life scientists to, together, lead viewers to poignant, of the moment theories, represented in three dimensions.

Until a recent shift in scale, the vast majority of what he made reflected personal toil, crafted, conceived and researched by his hand and mind alone. No longer pursuing intimate works, Rossano now continues in the same vein with large-scale installations in the homes of U.S. President’s, and more, exposing ever larger audiences to the conceptual matrix surrounding his work and our world. These new works are created in association with other artists, corporations, and individuals, all willing to donate their time and materials to the causes Rossano addresses and messages they deliver – a model of community collaborating for a cause.

The scientist, the environmentalist, and the conservationist constantly face the challenge of convincing an audience to care about their work, cause, etc. Although artists face the same challenges, more often than not, it is an ego driven exercise. Rossano have chosen to make makes things regardless of profit, that are about something bigger than ourselves, , about individuals and creatures—whether they be human or other—that need our help.

Joseph Rossano, born to clinicians and research scientists, graduated from Louisiana State University as an artist. His path joined him, via mentorship, collaboration, and exhibition, with renowned artists and institutions including Dale Chihuly, Judy Pfaff, The Pilchuck Glass School, Waterford Crystal, Museum of Glass, the South Australia Museum, Google, and more. Integrating cutting edge technology and science with his art, Rossano engages and challenges the viewer to reflect upon humankind’s impact on our planet and its varied ecosystems. Much of his youth was spent exploring the North Shore of New York’s Long Island and hiking in the Catskill Mountains. These were formative years that evolved a life focused on creating environmental awareness through art.
