David Maisel at the Kohler Arts Center (WI)

Gallery artist David Maisel is part of Photography and the Scientific Spiritan exhibition currently on display at Kohler Art Center.

The work in this exhibit builds upon the imagery produced by twentieth century photographer Berenice Abbott (1898–1991), who pioneered investigations into the relationship between photography and science. Furthermore, each characterizes invention and imagination in a manner described by Walt Whitman as the “scientific spirit”— an individual’s quality of “holding off, the being sure but not too sure, the willingness to surrender ideas when the evidence is against them.”

The artists included in the exhibition are Berenice Abbott, Brandon Ballengée, Matthew Brandt, Thomas Brennan, Caleb Charland, John Chervinsky, Adam Fuss, David Goldes, Jay Gould, Sharon Harper, Martha Madigan, David Maisel, Chris McCaw, Abelardo Morell, Meghann Riepenhoff , elin O’hara slavick, and Rachel Sussman.

Photography and the Scientific Spirt is on display through February 21, 2016.
