Featured article in the LOS ANGELES TIMES on Mark Moore Fine Art artist Heidi Schwegler and her work with the Yucca Valley Material Lab

Featured article today in the LOS ANGELES TIMES on Mark Moore Fine Art artist Heidi Schwegler and her work with the Yucca Valley Material Lab. Check it out at: https://www.latimes.com/lifestyle/story/2024-05-28/yucca-valley-material-lab-draws-artists-to-high-desert

Heidi Schwegler (b. 1967 in San Antonio, TX) explores a wide range of materials in the service of her subject matter. She is drawn to the peripheral ruin, modifying discarded objects to give them a new sense of purpose. There is an equilibrium inherent in such things – they float between endurance and decay, a living death.

Her numerous shows include exhibitions at the Co/Lab Art Fari (CA), Raid Projects, (CA), Platform China (Beijing), Scope Art 2004 (NY), and the Hallie Ford Museum (OR). Schwegler is a recent Ford Family Fellow, received a 2010 MacDowell Colony Fellowship and several RACC Individual Project Grants. Reviews of Schwegler’s work have appeared in Art in America, Daily Serving, ArtNews and the Huffington Post. She earned her MFA from the University of Oregon and is Chair of the MFA in Applied Craft + Design, a joint program of Oregon College of Art and Craft, and the Pacific Northwest College of Art.

Mark Moore Fine Art is proud to present “Todd Hebert: Works on Paper,” an exclusive ARTSY online exhibition opening June 20th

Mark Moore Fine Art is proud to present “Todd Hebert: Works on Paper,” an exclusive ARTSY online exhibition of thirteen recent works on paper by North Dakota-based artist Todd Hebert.

Works on paper are the foundation from which Todd Hebert has developed a distinctive approach to image-making. “Todd Hebert: Works on Paper” showcases his recent forays into this activity so vital to his artistic identity.

The pieces in the exhibition embody the interplay of subject and scale that has been a mainstay in his work. They also reflect Hebert’s embrace of an ever more abstract space for his subjects to occupy.

In making his works on paper, Hebert has always used a mix of media on a variety of papers. While the collection presented exemplifies this practice, many of the works in the exhibition are novel in that they were created by collaging separate, individually rendered images into one composition. This method of construction, new to Hebert’s working process, exaggerates the juxtapositions at play and fragments the compressed space that defines his work.

Todd Hebert received his BFA from the University of North Dakota and his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. Among the numerous private and public collections that have acquired his work are the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Neuberger Berman Collection, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; and the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, Los Angeles

Closing Sunday: MEHGAN SMYTHE “RECENT EXPLORATIONS IN CERAMIC SCULPTURE” | An Exclusive ARTSY Online Exhibition On View Now

MEHGAN SMYTHE: RECENT EXPLORATIONS IN CERAMIC SCULPTURE | An Exclusive ARTSY Online Exhibition On View Now

We are proud to present the new ceramic works of Meghan Smythe in her exclusive ARTSY exhibition, “Recent Explorations in Ceramic Sculpture”. Through her use of traditional monument format, Smythe captures the delicate balance between intimacy and brutality, beauty and ugliness.

VIEW THIS SHOW NOW AT: https://bit.ly/48ZMQcJ

Using a traditional sculptural format (the monument), Meghan Smythe captures contradicting extremes within human gesture: intimacy and brutality, beauty and ugliness, or the lewd and tender. In her attempt to achieve an “elegant vulgarity,” she encapsulates moments that define our mortality in unanticipated ways; oftentimes toeing the delicate line between erotic and macabre tendencies that give way to life, and ultimately death. Glass, ceramic, and concrete are woven together in an elaborate, orgy-like web of body parts and organic artifacts, as if suddenly cast with Pompeii-like circumstances. Like excavated antiquities or fossils, Smythe’s ceramic compositions allude to the cyclical nature of civilization – a dramedy in which all of the players are subject to conquest and demise.

Smythe (b. 1984, Kingston, ON) received her MFA from the Alfred University School of Art and Design (NY). Her work has been shown at the Arizona State University Art Museum (AZ) and the Gardiner Museum, Toronto (ON). She was the Visiting Artist in Residence at California State University, Long Beach (CA) from 2012-2014.
