In these alchemical works, New York artist Ben Weiner soaks ink-coated chromatography paper in solutions of drugs, resulting in hazy, prismatic abstractions. Inspired by the βdrug diariesβ patients keep during clinical trials, Weiner made the drawings using substances left from his own daily consumption, so that they constitute a record of his mental states over time. The drugs range from the psychedelic to the addictive, to the mundane, including Marijuana, Paxlovid, MDMA, Vicodin, Kombucha, Advil, Caffeine, and Mezcal. By couching painterly expressionism within an honest record of his substance usage, Weiner self-critically engages with issues surrounding wellness and mental health.
This is the first work in the new series of free-standing sculptures which configure their geometry based on a guitar riff. As in his paintings, artist Tim Bavington translates musical notation into mathematical sequences, but with additional possibilities that three-dimensional medium allows. The sculptural form is rendered as a free-standing Color Field painting in which a variety of different size square tubing creates a subtle interplay of light, shadow, and color unattainable on the flat surface of a canvas.
This major new sculpture work by Bavington is available now as an edition of just three examples plus one Artist Proof (already sold). Crafted from steel, aluminum, and automotive paint, βHeartbreakerβ will be a visual translation of the song by the same name recorded by the rock band Β Led Zeppelin in 1969.

We are proud to present the new ceramic works of Meghan Smythe in her exclusive ARTSY exhibition, “Recent Explorations in Ceramic Sculpture”. Through her use of traditional monument format, Smythe captures the delicate balance between intimacy and brutality, beauty and ugliness.
Using a traditional sculptural format (the monument), Meghan Smythe captures contradicting extremes within human gesture: intimacy and brutality, beauty and ugliness, or the lewd and tender. In her attempt to achieve an “elegant vulgarity,” she encapsulates moments that define our mortality in unanticipated ways; oftentimes toeing the delicate line between erotic and macabre tendencies that give way to life, and ultimately death. Glass, ceramic, and concrete are woven together in an elaborate, orgy-like web of body parts and organic artifacts, as if suddenly cast with Pompeii-like circumstances. Like excavated antiquities or fossils, Smythe’s ceramic compositions allude to the cyclical nature of civilization – a dramedy in which all of the players are subject to conquest and demise.
Smythe (b. 1984, Kingston, ON) received her MFA from the Alfred University School of Art and Design (NY). Her work has been shown at the Arizona State University Art Museum (AZ) and the Gardiner Museum, Toronto (ON). She was the Visiting Artist in Residence at California State University, Long Beach (CA) from 2012-2014.
