Before his LA solo debut with Mark Moore Gallery this fall, photorealist painter Yigal Ozeri is mounting an exhibition at Amsterdam’s Galerie Brandt. Featuring several new oil paintings, Ozeri’s solo show, entitled “Olga in the Park” features his trademark depictions of unusual young women marked for their uncanny realism and psychologically engaging presence.
The show opens today (May 21) and is on view through June 27, 2010.
In the Texas region? Head down to Marfa to check out Chad Person‘s “Dying Gaul” installation – presented in tandem with the Marfa Film Festival. On view at the Waypoint property through this Sunday, May 9th, Person’s 40-foot inflatable sculpture of a Sperm Whale will inflate and deflate in an homage to a “cyclical end to obsession.”

Tim Bavington‘s fifth solo exhibition – which also marked his tenth year of representation with Mark Moore Gallery – opened last Saturday night to the classic rock-inspired beats of DJ More Dillon and an array of long-standing enthusiasts.

Willkommen in Deutschland, Mario! The Slanguage Studio extraordinaire, Mario Ybarra Jr., is heading to the land of lederhosen and ales for his first solo exhibition at Galerie Michael Janssen (Berlin).
Opening Friday, April 30th from 6 – 9pm, the exhibition will remain on view through June 19th, 2010.
As indicated in the gallery’s press release:
“the American artist will show two installations: Silver and Blacks, a series of works on paper with both abstract and figurative works and an installation with an ongoing activity of Ybarra‘s studio in which customized t-shirts and hats will be sold.”

In his lecture earlier this month at Dartmouth University, artist-in-residence David Hilliard offered up some frank insight to his photography practice and background – a rare quality afforded to college students seeking artistic direction and development. Said the artist:
“I often show my own experience, but it may also relate to someone else’s life. We may not do this in particular, but we do something else that may raise some eyebrows.”
In addition to the artist’s current mini-retrospective at the university, “Highway of Thoughts” (on view through May 2, 2010), Hilliard will hold several classes for active photography students, and offer portfolio critiques. Dartmouth has also produced a new catalogue chronicling Hilliard’s work to date, along with an insightful essay.

Keeping busy on the heels of his Chicago opening at Tony Wight Gallery, which closed April 10th and was featured in Time Out Chicago, Jason Salavon‘s “Old Codes” has traveled to Ronald Feldman Fine Arts (NY) for another round of ooh-ing and ahh-ing.
On view through May 9th, Salavon’s first solo exhibition at the gallery has been the point of positive review from PBS’ Sunday Arts News, Discover, and New York Art Beat. Should you find yourself in the New York area, this show is not to be missed.

In other recent museum news, Mario Ybarra Jr.‘s “Take Me Out: No Man is an Island” (2008) – which was featured in Mark Moore Gallery’s 2009 group exhibition, “Ultrasonic IV: Fresh Perspectives” – has been acquired for the LA County Museum of Art’s permanent collection.
The museum will acquire the installation piece originally shown at the Art Institute of Chicago in 2008 – making LACMA the first public institution to include Ybarra Jr. in their collection.
