Works on paper are the foundation from which Todd Hebert has developed a distinctive approach to image-making. “Todd Hebert: Works on Paper” showcases his recent forays into this activity so vital to his artistic identity.

The pieces in the exhibition embody the interplay of subject and scale that has been a mainstay in his work. They also reflect Hebert’s embrace of an ever more abstract space for his subjects to occupy.

In making his works on paper, Hebert has always used a mix of media on a variety of papers. While the collection presented exemplifies this practice, many of the works in the exhibition are novel in that they were created by collaging separate, individually rendered images into one composition. This method of construction, new to Hebert’s working process, exaggerates the juxtapositions at play and fragments the compressed space that defines his work.

Todd Hebert received his BFA from the University of North Dakota and his MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has exhibited his work nationally and internationally. Among the numerous private and public collections that have acquired his work are the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Neuberger Berman Collection, New York; the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; and the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation, Los Angeles

Final Days: MICHAEL BATTY “BRIDGES” – An Exclusive ARTSY Online Exhibition Presented  By Mark Moore Fine Art

MICHAEL BATTY “BRIDGES” – An Exclusive ARTSY Online Exhibition Presented By Mark Moore Fine Art

@MarkMooreGallery is pleased to announce the premier of Canadian Artists, Michael Batty’s new paintings entitled “Bridges”. Comprised of four separate canvas panels, these new works are a continuation of his exploration with color equations. In the new works the colors span the width of the painting and through color tone and subtle relationships appear to have overlapping tones that build the image. The expanse of the upper panel offers a resting place for the eye and brings in a new element to these geometric paintings, an association to the landscape, horizon, and sky.

“Bridges” have long been metaphorically associated with connecting two separate entities, ideas, or places, making a journey from one to another possible. They symbolize transition, progress, and the ability to overcome obstacles. By creating compositions that reflect this, Michael Batty’s new works are infused with a new layer of meaning, inviting viewers to contemplate the significance of connection, transition, and the journey from one state to another.

Michael Batty (Canadian, born 1967)  graduated from Emily Carr College of Art and Design in Vancouver in 1989 with a major in painting. He attended the renowned artist workshops in Emma Lake, Saskatchewan, and studied printmaking at The Art Institute at Capilano College in Vancouver. Clay Johnson’s STRATA PAINTINGS Exclusive Online ARTSY Exhibition ON VIEW NOW

Experience a unique art experience as Mark Moore Fine Art presents Clay Johnson‘s “Strata Paintings” exclusive ARTSY online exhibition. Explore the layers of memory and perception in Johnson’s art, reflecting the complex editing process of the landscape of our minds.

Clay Johnson began work on his “Strata Series” shortly after relocating to Wyoming, and, while non-objective in nature, the paintings convey a sense of the wide open landscape of the American west.

“I think of myself as a collage artist. I’m cutting and pasting memories of my life.”

—Spalding Gray

When we think of past experiences, places we’ve visited, or people we’ve known, we’re not drawing on a unified continuum of experience. Rather these entities exist in our memories as collections of moments, collaged together and plastered with a label—School, Friend, Work. Whether very general (e.g., “Human”) or quite specific (“Stephen”), these concepts live in the mind as aggregations of snapshots, pasted together in no particular order, the most recent blended with the most distant (and all of the others) to create a representation of whatever the thing, place, person, or idea may be.

The Strata Paintings involve a kind of editing that’s similar to what our brains do in constructing images of the people and things that we remember. I layer many sections over one another, keeping the parts that I like and painting over the less memorable elements, or modifying them so that they fit with my idea of what the whole is (or should be). Just as our brains forget many unremarkable experiences, my paintings contain lots of layers beneath the visible surface, which nevertheless influence their perception in subtle ways.

Clay Johnson was born in Durham, North Carolina, where he studied art and art history at Duke University, receiving a B.A. degree in 1985. He then worked for several years as assistant to the painter Robert Natkin in Connecticut and New York City. He began showing paintings from his first series of mature work in 1998, and has since exhibited in galleries across the United States and in Europe. His work is represented in collections around the world.
