“Sugar”: Eutectic Gallery looks to its etymological roots (“eutectic” loosely means to meld two things together) with a show that pairs internationally recognized ceramicist Dirk Staschke, who recently relocated to Portland, with Lauren Gallaspy, a well-regarded emerging ceramic artist and painter. New work by Gallaspy will appear on the walls around Staschke’s sharply detailed sculptures of pastries, such as the startling “Let Them Eat Cake” (2013), which looks like afternoon tea — cakes and all — has been slung against the wall. Staschke’s work will play nicely with Gallaspy’s digital prints, which are by turns shocking and pleasing, with pretty lines and intense, erotic imagery wrought with flatness in David Hockney shades.
Feb. 2–24, Eutectic Gallery, 1930 N.E. Oregon St., eutecticgallery.com or 503-974-6518
